Shree Yamunaji descended from Suryamandal on this earth, on the Mount Kalinda (in the Himalayas). She flows through the North-Indian plains, flowing through many ancient and modern capitals of India (eg. Hastinapur, Delhi and Agra). Three main rivers of India – Ganga, Yamuna, and Sarasvati meet at a hallowed spot of Prayag (In Allahabad near Varanasi). The process of meeting is also called “Triveni Sangam”.
The holy places –shree Gokul and the city of Mathura are situated on her banks. As shree Yamunaji first came to rest on the peaks of the mountain Kalinda, she is known as “KALINDI”
In pustimarg, two mothers are popular. One is shree Yashodaji and the other is shree Yamunaji. Shree Yamunaji is the mother of all pushti bhaktas. There are three forms of each element in this universe. These are
1) Adhidaivik: The divine form
2) Adhyatmik: The divine attributes attaché with it.
3) Adhibhautik:The perceived form
Same, Shree Yamunaji has also three forms.
1) Adhidaivik: She is the fourth patrani of shree Krishna in Golokdham. This form always resides with Shree Krishna.
2) Adhyatmik: Shree Yamunaji’s nature and importance is, the one who knowingly or unknowingly takes the divine water of shree Yamunaji, all his or her sins gets destroyed, all obstacles coming in the way of Bhagwad seve will get destroyed.
3) Adhibhautik: The river form of Shree Yamunaji that is flowing in Mathura and Shree Gokul.
In Pustimarg, Shree Yamunaji holds the most important position as the “beloved of God Shrinathji”. She is the embodiment of divine grace. Shree Vallabhachayraji gained first darshan of Lord Shrinathji through her grace. As shree Yamunaji was the intermediary for this first meeting. Shree Vallabhacharyaji gratitude to her by writing the famous hymn “Yamunastak”.
Daughter of the Lord Surya (Sun) and sister of Lord Yama (God of death), the goddess is believed to have come down from the heaven to bless the world. Yamunaji on the day of Bhai-Bij, devotees attain freedom from the pain of death.
All vaishnavas when visiting Mathura perform pooja, offer bhog and drink holy water of Yamunaji.
All vaishnavas must keep respect of shree Yamunaji and before taking a holy dip in the water of Yamunaji must remain in “Apras” and request for her permission before entering in the water.
While taking holy dip, one should not give affliction or exertion to shree Yamunaji.
Vaishnavas, who go for Vraj yatra should take permission of shree Yamunaji before commencing journey to Vraj & hence every Vraj yatra commences from Shree Yamunaji (Vishram Ghat) at Mathura.
